If you are married and use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to transfer your information from the IRS into your FAFSA, the answer to this question will be pre-filled.

If you have not entered your and your spouse's income earned from working, this field displays the amount transferred from the IRS.

If the total amount you entered for your and your spouse's income earned from working equals the amount transferred from the IRS, this field displays the amount transferred from the IRS.

If you and your spouse did not file a 1040 tax return and the total amount you entered for your and your spouse's income earned from working does not equal the amount transferred from the IRS, this field displays the total of the amounts you entered.

If you and your spouse filed a 1040 tax return and the total amount you entered for your and your spouse's income earned from working and (if applicable) IRS Schedule K-1 (Form 1065) does not equal the amount transferred from the IRS, this field displays the total of the amounts you entered.

Note: This field only displays if you are married and transferred information from the IRS into your FAFSA.
